These little shunters were magnificent. Shame there's not more of them around anymore.

 | | Class 20 (118 images)
Class 20 numberpanels are easy to remove, which is testimony to the amount saved as a lasting memory of a fine loco class.

 | | Class 23 (2 images)
Amazing to see examples of Baby Deltics saved.

 | | Class 24 (5 images)
These are quite scarce panels, however, I was recently informed that a small stack of them existed for sale at a Doncaster Works open day around 1981, so they should be out there. 24097 is a bit special as it's original green paint is showing through the blue and it's original D5097 number is under the paint.

 | | Class 25 (95 images)
Class 25 panels seem to have survived in good quantities also. 25209 is the panel i would be wanting as I have memories of it at Doncaster Works, 1st hand, when it yielded parts to 25912 restoration.

Not many panels seem to have been saved and those that have been have suffered bad burning. 33114 is a rare example. There are quite a few more out there I am told.

 | | Class 35 Hymek (1 images)
Although the Hymeks screwed on numbers don't constitute a numberpanel, i've listed them if there appears to be a complete set of numbers even if they might not all be from that engine.

 | | Class 37 (92 images)
One of my favourite classes, especially the 37/4's. Panels from 37408 & 420 are particurlarly treasured examples.
|
 | | Class 40 (102 images)
Many panels of great class 40's in this gallery, 40139 being one of a few with fond memories to me.
|
 | | Class 42 Warship (5 images)
These are hard to find panels and D804 is a very nice rarity indeed!

 | | Class 44 (2 images) |
 | | Class 45 (95 images)
Nice to see a few panels were saved from 45's. During 2008 I was fortunate enough to aquaint myself with a collector who allowed me to obtain 45052 and 45145 for my collection. Both loco's having special memories for me for different reasons.

 | | Class 46 (7 images) |
 | | Class 47 (179 images)
Despite the sad demise of so many that could have been saved, it's good to see a variety of panels saved from the Duffs. Scottish one's were always a favourite for me when they were running regular services in scotland and on Carlisle-Leeds trains. D1854 is a real gem. It was just plain grey with old numbers visible under the paint. By gently removing the layers of paint revealed that the loco obviously wasn't rubbed down very well in the 70's, as the original BR green and numbers were still on there! Priceless.

 | | Class 50 (36 images)
Early memories of 50's was on holiday in Torquay in June 1986. It was on this holiday that I was offered a cab ride in 50006 from Paignton to Torquay, so when the opportunity came to buy the panel, it was snapped up.

| Welcome to panel land. This site is for everyone and anyone interested in collecting flamecut or saw cut numberpanels from mainline railway vehicles, particurlarly locomotives. Myself a collector, i've been removing numberpanels for quite a few years now and feel that when a vehicle (especially a loco) is consigned to scrap, there should be a timely reminder of it's existance. Like smokebox numberplates in steam days, I consider these to be the modern traction equivalent. I hope the website is useful and I cant thank enough the contributers to it, and in particular their private collection photos, which I ask to not be 'stolen' without permission. JR 2007 |

I started collecting these panels quite a while ago and I'm hopeful to obtain 1 from most classes of locos, diesel and electric. I've started this website due to curiosity as to what loco cabside/bodyside numberpanels have been saved whilst the rest of the loco has been cut up. Some panels haven't been saved and in due course i'm hoping to catalogue these seperately. I really would welcome any collector to submit pictures of their panels and this would be done in complete privacy. I won't pass details on regarding ownership etc as this will compromise the ability to display peoples private collections and their privacy. Eventually i will create blank boxes within the galleries for panels that exist but for various reasons i'm unable to display the panel picture.
Please use the browser configuration box at the bottom of this column to make the pictures appear correctly for your monitor.
